Program Locations
SPARC programs meet in community settings throughout Westchester, enabling you to become part of your community in northern, central or southern towns. We are also available to come to your site in surrounding counties, Bronx and Manhattan. Accessible facilities are available.
Eligibility
SPARC welcomes and accommodates individuals with developmental disabilities. Staff: participant ratio is based on participants’ functional abilities, generally not suitable for individuals requiring 1:1 supervision. We cannot support behavioral issues which create safety concerns. Each session is designed with sensitivity to participants’ strengths, needs and compatible peers. Groups are co-ed, based on age and capabilities. Membership is open and equal regardless of residence. We also offer “Kids Express,” a general education, inclusionary after-school program.
Enrollment Procedures
New participants must file SPARC’s registration application prior to joining programs. An interview will be planned with a Program Coordinator to find the right placement for each applicant. Returning participants must update registration forms annually with changes in personal or contact information and signed authorization for recreation participation. Returning group members meeting deadlines have first choice should a waiting 1ist be necessary. The registration deadline, in general is 3 weeks prior to program start dates. Once deadlines pass, please call to inquire about vacancies. We will make every effort to accommodate interested individuals.
Program Fees, Scholarships, Refunds
Full payment of fees is required prior to program start dates. Full year enrollment guarantees your spot and assists our bookkeeping efforts. Please call (914) 243-0583 to inquire about scholarships, flexible payment plan or to request a financial aid application if fees create a hardship.
Programs indicated by * in activity descriptions receive Medicaid respite funding. SPARC fees cover program enhancements and additional benefits. Fees are determined at 60% required, 40% requested family contribution. Medicaid regulations do not allow us to require a mandatory donation and you have the right to opt out. However, without continued family support in the same amount we have historically charged, programs expenses will not be met, thus jeopardizing our future ability to offer Teen Time, Social Club, Horseback Riding, Kidz Time, Film Production, Golf and other youth/young adult programs. You are welcome to increase the amount of your contribution should you wish.
Refunds for withdrawal are available up to 1 week prior to program start date; afterwards cancellation fees may apply.
Program Dismissal
Pick-up is expected promptly at conclusion of activities. Staff commitments prevent extended arrangements. Late arrivals will be charged $10.00 per 10 minute increments.
Weather Advisory/Cancellations
As program locations cover a broad geographic range, weather varies and may cause cancellations in only some areas of the county. Program cancellation notice will be provided through email and telephone calls no later than 3 hours prior to program schedule.
