NEW! LINK-UP: Learning Independence in the Community

Does your young adult have more leisure time than anticipated upon leaving the school system; home without structure, productive involvements or companionship? Our innovative daytime program engages young adults seeking alternatives to part-time employment and day habilitation. LINK-UP’s weekly schedule of recreation and life skills experiences supports higher ability participants with a 1:4 staff ratio. Activities promote life learning and experience in community integration, personal development, leisure time use, socialization, community service, pre-vocational skills, travel training, money management and daily recreation activities. Learn about the neighborhood by being in it!!! See our brochure for more information, or register here.

Personalized instruction is provided in a small group lesson, preparing you to understand and enjoy the game of golf. Learn body mechanics and golf techniques such as your stance, pivoting and swinging. Practice golf etiquette, picking out a club and finding your way around the golf center. Friday

NEW! Rec Night

Teens with Asperger Syndrome often feel that they don’t quite “fit” in either programs for typical kids or those for students in special education. Rec Nights is a haven where socialization is encouraged and supported without pressure. A comfortable environment for teens to develop friends, participate in activities you choose, and find free time with others an enjoyable part of life.

For Ages 12-20.

* Social Club

Looking for a great time on Friday nights? The Social Club is where it’s at for young adults in their 20’s. Discover this social “oasis” to meet old and new friends, listen to music, try new activities, enjoy discussions, games, snacks, parties and be a part of the community. This is a supportive environment to learn leisure skills, practice independence and develop leadership. Monthly trips may include: movie and dinner nights, bowling, theatre, golf, billiards, swimming, hiking, summer cruise, baseball game, sports club and wherever your imagination takes us!

Social Circle

The Social Circle is where it’s at for young adults in their 20s and 30s transitioning from living at home to residential placement. Have a typical experience socializing with peers at the end of the week, listen to music, try new activities, enjoy games, arts/crafts, community service, snacks, parties, and trips. Be part of the community in a supportive environment with guidance in leisure skills, independence, community integration and money management. Help choose trips such as: movies and dinner, bowling, golf, billiards, a sports club and more!

* Teen Time

Looking for friendship, excitement, and unique activities? Spend your evenings hanging out with other teens in this supportive, social environment! Join trips, dances and parties, try art, games or community service, talk about teen concerns, bring your CD’s, have a snack and help plan activities! Trips may include: bowling, mini-golf, Battle of the Bands, dinner, movies, arcades, theatre, swimming, summer cruise, baseball game, nature walk, sports clubs, and festivals! SPARC specialists support leisure education, stress management, independence, self-expression, development of socialization skills and attitudes to make leisure time enjoyable.

Saturday

Club SPARC

Kids crave weekend play-dates but it’s not always easy for parents to make this happen. Club SPARC facilitates the formation of rewarding friendships by matching participants based on compatible interests and social skills. Kids learn about making and being a good friend through creative games and projects which encourage self-expression, conversation skills, problem solving and decision making skills, all while developing new interests and self-esteem.

For ages 12-15.

NEW! Gotta Dance

Hang out with your friends and enjoy dancing to popular tunes with the guidance and enthusiasm of SPARC’s dance specialist. Neither a dance “event” or purely instruction, just enough encouragement to feel comfortable joining in a spirited evening of dance with friends.

*1st & 3rd Sat.of month (Teens can combine schedule with Film Fans)

* Film Fans

Do you love going out with friends on Saturday nights, catching a movie and gabbing over dessert? Then Film Fans is the place for you! We have a night out on the town once a month to see a movie chosen by the group. After the film, we’ll hit a nearby restaurant for some yummy treats and SPARC’s group leader will facilitate a lively discussion and movie review. Build independence as you learn group decision making, money management and social conversation skills.

* Film Production Workshop

Enjoy instruction in technical and creative movie making from SPARC’s professional producer/editors, with a social group of friends. Film neighborhood events “on location,” our own biographies, create fictional scripts, do movie reviews, make music videos and conduct interviews. Develop skills in camera work, lighting, props, editing, directing, critiquing and being on camera (optional.) Invite friends and families to our “Red Carpet Event,” a gala showcase of our filmmakers’ work. Our creative accomplishments can be viewed on YouTube.com/SPARCIncTV.

* Horseback Riding

Adapted horseback riding gives participants new skills, a sense of accomplishment and a love for animals. Professional instruction in English style riding techniques helps riders gain independence while improving balance, posture, self-esteem, and concentration. The beautiful settings offer participants indoor and outdoor riding facilities, opportunities to groom and feed horses and have lots of fun. Individualized riding evaluation and goals are determined for each rider.
